Description
Rocla's reinforced, hollow, spun concrete poles are the "benchmark" product for long life, zero maintenance, streetlighting poles. The poles are available in a wide range of lengths, load capabilities and fitting requirements. The elegant appearance of the pole with its" smooth light grey finish and continuous taper, makes it aesthetically pleasing. The streetlighting poles are manufactured from high quality concrete, and are available in standard lengths from 4,5m to 13,0m. Due to the loading nature of the application, the standard streetlight pole is manufactured to the lower strength range specification in SABS 470 although other lengths and strengths can be designed and manufactured to suit customer requirements. |

Specification The Reticulation Poles are manufactured in standard lengths from 7,0m to 13,0m, but can be manufactured in special lengths to customer specification. The standard strength classes for these poles are 25L, 50L, 75L and 100L. Special intermediate strengths or heavier loading requirements can be designed and manufactured. These are subject to various material constraints, but will be evaluated by our engineers on an ad hoc basis. The concrete mix used during the manufacture of these poles can be modified to suit aggressive environments or soil conditions. Please use the contact us facility for further inquiries into these options. The earthing of the system can be accommodated through the reinforcing of the pole. This eliminates the need for additional earthing requirements. Stainless steel earthing ferrules are cast into the pole as standard, and earthing of the conductors can be attached thereto. |

Accessories
Sleeves
Sleeves can be cast into the pole to facilitate the attachment of insulators by means of bolting through the pole. These sleeves can be either stainless steel or PVC. Galvanised Steel Clamps Where the sleeves cannot be used, Galvanised Steel Clamps can be supplied for the conductor attachment. Earthing Ferrules The earthing of the
system can be accommodated through the reinforcing of the pole. This
eliminates the need for additional earthing requirements. Stainless
steel earthing ferrules are cast into the pole as standard, and
earthing of the conductors can be attached thereto.

Areas of Use Precast concrete poles are widely used in 11kV to 22kV as well as Aerial Bundle Conductor reticulation applications. Areas with aggressive environments are especially suited for this product. The poles can also be used in security applications where lights and cameras have been mounted. They are ideal in applications where maintenance-free, high quality solutions are required.

Handling and Installation When handling any concrete products, it is important to remember that, as concrete is a heavy and somewhat brittle material, bumps or shock loads of any description are liable to damage the product. This applies particularly to sharp edges. All poles are transported in a horizontal position, and should be left in this position until lifting into the foundation. When off-loading, two 150mm sling must be used and spread apart in order to distribute the weight of the pole. The pole must be placed on level ground, and not be allowed to bend. The excavation of the foundation must be to the engineer's specification. All poles carry a mark that indicated 1,5m above ground level. This assists with the inspection of the excavation depths. In wider foundations, the foundation can be pre-prepared, by casting a sleeve in the center of the foundation by using manhole sections. This limits crane time when installing the pole, as the volume of material to be backfilled will be greatly reduced. If the poles are to carry any attachment steelwork such as clamps, then we suggest that these be attached prior to the lifting of the pole. The poles should be lifted into a vertical position by attaching the sling approximately one third of the length from the tip. A system to release the sling once the pole is planted must be kept in mind. The pole is lifted by using a crane, and lowered into the hole. The Pole must be levelled from two sides at 90 degrees to ensure that the pole is upright. If required, earthing of the structure must be done at this point. The backfilling of the void between the pole and the foundation or surrounding soil must be done using a 1:8 cement:sand mixture, or other material as specified by the engineer. Compaction of the backfill material must be done in layers of 150mm or as specified by the engineer. Once the foundation is compacted a half to two thirds complete, then the crane can be released and move to the next point or installation.
